About ArtDabbler
The mission of ArtDabbler Designs Studio is to provide a place where children create art, are allowed to express themselves, and gain confidence in their abilities. Artists will experiment with different media and have fun in a relaxed studio environment. Basic art skills are accompanied with brief introductions of famous (and not so famous) artistsβ lives and their work. An emphasis will be placed on personal exploration and creative growth, in a supportive atmosphere.
As an art studio that prides itself on fostering the creativity of children ages 6+, ArtDabbler provides a safe, nurturing space for people to create in a private or small group setting without the pressure of formal expectations.
The visual arts have proven to be critical in the development of not only inventiveness, but motor skills, language skills, and social skills. ArtDabbler Designs Studio does not look to just teach color and perspective, but rather that each child is just as unique and appreciated as the art piece created.
As a firm believer in process art, where the outcome is not as important as the artistic process it takes to get there, each session plans to be a learning experience from start to finish.
Meet the Owner, Jen
Jen Sweazy is a licensed art teacher with over 17 years of experience in a classroom environment. She was born and raised in South Bend, and attended Adams High School before graduating from Indiana University - Bloomington in 2003. She pursued her lifelong dream of becoming an art teacher at St. Monica and Holy Cross Grade Schools, where she fell in love with teaching the process, not the product. She took the opportunity to continue her career at St. Joseph Grade School where she spent a decade building the art program.
Jen prides herself on allowing students to explore various mediums to help kids realize there is so much more to art than just βpaper and pencil.β She is passionate about making art accessible to all - regardless of background and experience. Her curriculum looks at the work of renowned artists and their techniques in order to educate students about art history, before undertaking a process that allows them to create a masterpiece of their own.
